2024  SNAPPER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS:

CONGRATS TO DAVE KEETON & NICK LUCHONOK

Blade’s Slice – A hat tip to Team 12 Steve Starnes, Matt Keenan and Toby Smith for rallying for 17 points on the last week position round to vault them from a solid 4th place into a tie for second. What should be a happy story of perseverance and a proud runner-up status, their final deficit to the league champs was just 16 points – not that close until you consider the goose egg “0” on week 10, and the unfortunate “3 spot” in week 16 scored by the two subs secured by Snapper (my 82-yr-old FIA and I) who combined for 120 strokes against Cooper/Strachnan (the other runner-ups). The moral of the story is – always send subs when you have to work late, or risk a “0” for no-show OR a 3 spot if I’m available.

YEAR END OUTING UPDATE:   IT LOOKS LIKE I DID A POOR JOB OF COMMUNICATING…every year since the league has existed  I included a fee in your dues payment to have a yearend scramble outing to finish the season and formally acknowledge accomplishments and good times ..It has always been nonrefundable in an effort to encourage maximum attendance for a good time for all. It is ALWAYS the 1^st Sunday after Labor Day following league ending last Thursday before Labor Day  so that it can go on your calendar and minimize conflicts..if there are conflicts I do my best to fill them from our sub list so that we get guys people already know as I make 4 man teams fair from the list (you don’t choose your team,,we do it for you)…sometimes  conflicts happen.. this year of 29 guys (including 3 man teams) we have only 19 participating…I will fill the teams as usual with as many from our sublist as I can to make even 4 somes probably at 24 but maybe at 20 guys..I have already negotiated a  discounted tee time and dinner deal for 28 and may have to pay for that.  I am still looking for an answer from DAVE HAMILTON…TONY STIPCZAK & MIKE LINGO…are you in or out????

As you may know, any air plane the President is on magically becomes Air Force One. I assume that also happens when the actual President is on a golf cart – it magically becomes Golf Cart One.

The same is true for when your League President takes the helm – it becomes Snappers One.

PICTURED: Kyle is overheard reviewing this prototype cart that potentially become one of a new fleet next year…

Really charp chort, man, y’know? It was lower to da ground, had twice-
Pipes, granny-apple green and button top. Oooo, clean!

I can’t beat that review, but I really appreciated the combo ball wash – club cleaner on the left and the beer / drink cooler on the right. All of those accoutrements received a workout, as well as the functional dash, with cup holders & multiple carve-outs to hold phones, speakers, found Rams, etc. All it lacked was the GPS screen for exact yardage to the pin, which is info I like to have before I roll my 3-wood 20 yrads left. Two thumbs up!

Welcome back to The Rick, who returned for the first time since 2021. We picked up where we left off. No, I don’t mean 15th place. I’m talking a Team Meeting consisting of mini Buffalo Trace bottles of feel good.

Remember, The sorority squat is a forward lean that sorority members originated as a way to fit multiple rows of people into a single picture – but has become a habit whenever they see a camera regardless of how many people are in the photo.

CORRECTING THE SCHEDULE

Dave Wolfenden alerted me to an error that resulted in his team not listed for a 2 week period following his absense this week. This slight Scrivener’s error has been fixed, but only after hinting to Wolf that nothing could be done. Is it me, or did Wolf not seem to mind? (Actual text below).

STIX & STONES (a/k/a the Blind Draw Team)

This week we welcomed back my father-in-law, Doyne ‘Free Golf’ Cason who filled in for the vacationing Snapper. It was position round, so of course we played the 14th place Blind Draw team. They didn’t talk much, but were very considerate. There was no trash talking (“did you get it caught in your skirt”), or pocket change jingling while I was trying to putt. I just wish they hadn’t followed me home… (to be continued)

Congratulations to this week’s Majestic Beer Babe Molly. She claimed this was her first win of the year but I could almost swear she has a half a dozen wins so far!

This week’s satirical lyrics may have been inspired by the song Hotel California and is the only way I can use the words “Eagles” and “golf” in the same sentence.

Did you get your free small Slurpee? 7-Eleven Day comes around once every year, but this year there is a twist. With mass store closings across the country, participating 7/11s will only hand out a “free” 2-ounce pour from the Slurpee machine with the purchase of that petrified, discolored Hot Dog with the strange aroma that has been on the roller under a faulty heat lamp since 1972. Enjoy!
